Call For Participation

**This Call for Participation closed on Feb. 15, 2010.

We invite anyone interested in Educational Policy and OpenCourseWare to propose a presentation or session.  Sessions will be 60 minutes long, including time for questions or discussions.  Proposals that explore the overall theme or one particular subtheme of the conference are welcome.

This year’s conference theme is Educational Policy and OpenCourseWare. We encourage presentations that discuss the uses and potential uses of OpenCourseWare to achieve educational goals in the educational, public and private sectors.

Proposals will be accepted for the following session formats:

Presentations – include papers, research, video or slide presentations given by one or more authors.  Presentation topics could include: advancements in discoverability of Open Educational Resources, faculty perspectives on instructional improvement, or using OCW to improve student preparation for higher education.   Proposals for presentations should describe or outline the content of the presentation.

Case studies – include presentations of best practices or innovative projects, showcases for new tools for or approaches to OCW within an institution or group of institutions. Examples of Case study presentations include: collaboration of OCW projects within a geographic area, OCW as institutional policy, or innovative collaborations through OCW.   Case study proposals should provide an overview of the project(s) to be featured and a description of its interest to the broader OCW community.

Panel discussions – a moderated panel of experts discussing a topic, designed to give the audience different perspectives on that topic. Panel discussions could feature speakers on: government-education partnerships, sustainability of OCW projects, using OCW as a platform for workforce development, etc.  Proposals for panel discussions should include a clear statement of the topic to be addressed, along with a short description of what each panelist will address.

Round Table discussions – a moderated discussion of a topic that involves both experts and general attendees, with the purpose of exchanging viewpoints on the issue.  Round Table discussions could explore research opportunities in OER, student involvement in OCW, Community and Technical Colleges’ OpenCourseWare projects, etc.  A proposal for a Round Table discussion should clearly state the topic to be discussed, an outline of what the experts will present, and the expected outcomes from the discussion.

Workshops – a limited number of participatory workshops will be included in the conference.  These workshops should address issues, tools, or topics of interest to the OCW community, and should be designed to educate or train participants in a particular area.  Examples include workshops on technology, demonstrations of OCW tools, or processes for working with intellectual property issues.  A workshop proposal should describe the workshop content, intended audience and expected outcomes.  Workshop presenters may request two back-to-back sessions.
